Explore our rich history filled with growth, innovation, and recognition that highlights how we've transformed early childhood education.

Foundation: Vygotskian Principles 1920s

The journey began with the visionary work of Lev Vygotsky, whose theory on social interactions and cognitive development ld the groundwork for our approach. He posited that children need not only knowledge and skills but also mental toolstools of the mindto thrive in education and beyond.

Birth of Tools 1993

In 1993, Drs. Deborah Leong and Elena Bodrova recognized this principle while working together in U.S. early childhood classrooms. Their goal was to create Vygotskian-based instructional strategies that would work within the unique cultural context of American education. They developed activities with a consistent theoretical framework, merging theory into practical application.

Evolution 1996

The collaboration between Drs. Leong and Bodrova led to the publication of Tools of the Mind: The Vygotskian Approach to Early Childhood Education. This book introduced the Vygotskian approach in an accessible way, offering teachers a coherent framework for teaching and learning.

Expansion 2001
