Today we celebrate the start of Children’s Mental Health Week, with this year's theme focusing on #growingtogether.
New data from the charity Place2Be reveals that one in six children and young people experience diagnosable mental health issues. Additionally, many struggle with challenges such as bullying or bereavement. Schools play a pivotal role in supporting these critical needs while also fulfilling their responsibilities of academic instruction and ensuring all students achieve educational success.
The solution? Nurture.
Nurture significantly transforms the lives of children, especially those considered among UK's most vulnerable, but it also benefits children with mild to moderate social, emotional, and mental health concerns by keeping them well-hidden behind smiles and laughter. This approach enables children to connect with others, build important relationships, develop self-worth, learn, play, communicate - and thrive in their development.
The nurturing environment offers a range of activities for specific groups or supports the development of a wellbeing-focused school culture that prioritizes emotional intelligence. It is rooted in attachment theory and neuroscience principles, emphasizing how social environments significantly influence social skills, emotional well-being, behavior, and overall success.
This week, we're seizing this opportunity to discuss nurture's benefits and illustrate practical methods for educators on integrating this approach into their classroo ensure every child flourishes both academically and personally.
