The National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning NCECDTL is a prestigious program awarded to Zero to Three in collaboration with other leading institutions including the University of Washington, Vanderbilt University, Child Trs, and the Children's Equity Project. This initiative ms at enhancing best practices for identifying, developing, promoting the implementation of evidence-based child development and teaching-learning strategies that are culturally and linguistically sensitive. It focuses on delivering outstanding trning, information, and resources to early childhood programs across the country.
NCECDTL's core activities encompass:
Professional Development: This includes education for infant, toddler, and preschool teachers and care providers.
Evidence-Based Curriculum: Promoting and disseminating curricula that are research-backed and suitable for diverse populations.
Intentional Teaching Practices: Enhancing the quality of teaching through intentional planning and implementation strategies.
Home Visiting Practices: Supporting families with guidance on child development and education.
Effective Transitions: Facilitating smooth transitions between early care settings, school, and other stages of learning.
Developmental Screening Instruments: Providing tools to identify children's developmental milestones and potential delays.
On-Going Assessment Tools: Using instruments that help monitor progress over time.
Practice-Based Coaching: Offering personalized guidance and support for educators.
Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Practices: Ensuring that all practices are inclusive of diverse cultures, languages, and abilities.
Enhancing Teacher-Child Interactions: Promoting constructive relationships between teachers and children to foster positive learning experiences.
Supporting Children with Disabilities or Suspected Delays: Providing tlored support for special needs through services like Part C and Part B programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA.
Using Data to Improve Practice: Implementing evidence-based data analysis methods in early childhood settings.
NCECDTL ensures that all early care providers have access to high-quality trning and technical assistance, as per federal regulations including those under the Head Start Act, Head Start Program Performance Standards, Child Care Development Block Grant CCDBG Act of 2014, among other relevant guidelines. The Center also acts as a hub for integrating research, data, knowledge, and experience to align with national office priorities.
Recognizing the unique needs of dual language learners, American Indian and Alaskan Native AN, Migrant and Seasonal Head Start MSHS programs, and other diverse groups, NCECDTL employs professional development strategies that support states, tribes, agencies in serving low-income families effectively.
As part of a comprehensive Office of Head Start Technical Assistance System, NCECDTL collaborates with the National Centers on Program Management and Fiscal Operations, Parent, Family Community Engagement, Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety to form an integrated support network for Head Start and Early Head Start programs providing comprehensive services.
