When babysitting her nephews a couple of years ago, Ms Lee Ann observed the rapid cognitive, physical and behavioral development of children. This caught her attention as she realized how quickly young minds absorb information, making her question the effectiveness of their holistic education.
It was this realization that sparked her interest in early childhood education. She came to understand that young children serve as sponges for knowledge, which prompted her to advocate for a more effective approach to educating these developing minds.
Ms Lee Ann believes wholeheartedly in shaping and educating young children holistically because she believes they will grow into the future leaders of our world. To her, education encompasses not just literacy and numeracy skills but also nurturing moral values and instilling positive learning attitudes amongst young children from an early age.
Upon finishing her A levels last year, Ms Lee Ann decided to pursue her dream by enrolling in the Bachelor of Education Early Childhood Education program at James Cook University's Singapore campus. She chose JCU because it is one of the few universities in Singapore offering undergraduate education programs specifically in early childhood education. She was particularly drawn to the fact that the faculty, comprising internationally recognized lecturers based in the local campus, enables her to continue her studies without having to sp extra time away from home.
Notably, Ms Lee Ann’s Bachelor of Education Early Childhood Education program at JCU is fully accredited by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority. This makes graduates eligible for teacher registration in Australia, which opens up opportunities for her potential work abroad should she choose to do so later on.
To date, as a first-year student, Ms Lee Ann has been studying theories related to language acquisition at various developmental stages in children. She has also delved into educational psychology, gning insight into the significance of children's motivation.
She enjoys interacting with lecturers and classmates in small groups which she finds more beneficial for learning compared to larger classroom settings.
